Argentina, 1885. Severe laws prohibited men and women from swimming together and the use
of binoculars or similar optical equipment was not allowed in this areas. The women’s bikini
was banned from Argentina until 1957.
In 1946 French women’s designer Luis Reard brings to fashion the women’s bikini…but it only gains popularity when Hollywood stars begin using them.
The furor of the two-piece bikini takes place in 1956 with Hollywood actress Brigitte Bardot In “ And God Created Women” which also propelled her career. By the 1970’s Raquel Welsh among others dominate the screen by wearing bikinis.
